Lumi was setting up a craft table with a small storybook robot called Bibo. “Could you give me a hand?” she asked. Bibo carefully drew a hand on a sheet of paper and presented it. “Five fingers included,” said Bibo. “No extra charge.”
Lumi smiled. “Please put these three empty cups beside the paint tray.” Bibo counted the cups, moved them and stopped. The table was ready. “Much clearer,” said Bibo. “My paper hand was terrible at carrying cups.”
Pip arrived with biscuits. “Keep an eye on these while I fetch the plates,” he told Bibo. Bibo drew one enormous eye and laid it beside the tin. “Excellent eyesight,” Bibo reported. “Absolutely no blinking.” Pip laughed at the mix-up and explained that he meant to watch the biscuits.
They made a small phrase guide together. “Give me a hand” meant “help me”. “Keep an eye on” meant “watch”. Bibo practised asking what an unfamiliar phrase meant before acting. Lumi thanked him. “You’re a star!” Bibo paused with a yellow pencil. “Is that another expression?” “Exactly!” she laughed.
