Nimo the little turtle wanted to reach the big sunflower.
It was on the other side of the garden.
‘Ready, steady, go!’ said Nimo.
He took one step. Then another.
A butterfly fluttered past. ‘Who are you racing?’
‘Yesterday’s me,’ said Nimo. ‘Yesterday I stopped at that stone.’
Today, he passed the stone.
He stopped for a rest beside a leaf. The leaf was bigger than his head. It made a lovely shady hat.
‘Resting is part of my race,’ he told the butterfly.
Step, step, rest. Step, step, smile.
At last, Nimo reached the sunflower. He looked up. Up, up, up!
‘Hello,’ he said. ‘You are very tall.’
The flower nodded in the breeze.
Nimo did not win a cup. He did not win a ribbon.
He found a new place to sit and a very big reason to feel proud.
