After a rainy night, a puddle stretched across the garden path. Mira noticed a beetle walking along the edge. It could not find a dry way across.
Mira laid a leaf across the puddle, but it sagged into the water. Her friend Kabir found a twig. They placed it carefully from one dry edge to the other.
The twig rolled when the beetle stepped onto it. “What could keep it still?” Mira asked. They tucked a small stone beside each end. This time, it stayed in place.
The beetle crossed the bridge and disappeared under a bush. Mira sketched their three attempts. “Our first idea did not work,” she said, “but it helped us find the next one.”
